INI Changed Without Permission ?

Noticed on several occasions that my netspeed has been changed without my knowledge. I usually keep it at 8800. While playing on Helens server something felt off, so I hit f6 thinking i'd see packet loss again. I was surprised to see my net speed at 12000. I changed it back to 8800 and went to the server i was at previously, sure enough it was changed again.
  This server has newnet and i think ace.
      My concern is, if it can change that, what else is it changing that i don't know about ?

edit* I just tried another newnet server and sure enough netspeed is changed. What else does newnet change ?

Basically any mutator has the ability to change your settings in the unrealtournament.ini or user.ini files.

The mutator authors are supposed to make good decisions as to what they are allowed to touch in those files.

I don't know how newnet works, maybe the higher netspeed makes it work better (that's giving it the benefit of the doubt). But IMO, netspeed is not something that should be changed on you.

Yes, of the servers that I visited, newnet were the only ones to change netspeed. Thats not to say there aren't others doing it or worse !  Cheesy

What is NewNet? Where is the setting in the in the user.ini or unrealtournament.ini that dictates the speed that you play at?

I know I can reduce a player's netspeed but I can't increase it. Nor can I change an ini file and have it be permanent.

I'm not asking for hard core details but as simple as you can please.

NewNet is like zeroping, alot of things have been altered by the "pros"

Netspeed setting is in the unrealtournament.ini. The change made remains until I change it back.

Yeah, I have heard of problems, and have seen a number of NewNet "bug" threads forming on a few forums.
Too bad - hope they work these bugs out.
