I would refer you to Hermski, he also runs his server from his home. Hardest thing with home hosting is getting your server to be seen past your router (so I have heard).

My only contribution to the choice between windows and linux is that linux only supports 127 characters in players names, so on a linux server, sometimes the players letters in their name appear as squares. There may even be a linux edition of the game if you choose linux (not sure, but it is a question to ask).

regardless of OS, you can run version 451 as a server.

I just read one of your posts and I think you're having a breakdown. I couldn't understand a thing you wrote. Debian cisco native poweredge xeon boop boop be doop.  Are you physically merging with a game server? Will UT be played through your server or you?  Lol.

If i had the internal components i might try playing the server through me physically yes! Be pretty cool to see little explosions going off in the left bottom corner of my kidney!  Also really? sys spec's are much lower than i expected..but i guess that's true to form, game is pre-2000, so awesome maybe i could just lay out a gaming server for multiple games on one box. cool thx for the info , appreciated !

Any others are custom, and optional. They are up to you if you want them on your server. (BTW, you could almost think of "package" and "mutator" as interchangeable). If you list the extra ones we can try to figure out what they are.

ZeroPing - mutator that... well I think everyone knows this one.
UT-PostalBabes - When the game is over, it shows some female bots (Abbey model I think) dancing around the winner (I think).

If you don't want to run a mutator, you do two things. One is remove it from the packages list. You don't have to remove the line, you can just comment it out, like this:

;ServerPackages=UT-PostalBabes

Just put a semi-colon in front of the line. That prevents the package from being sent to your clients. The second thing is to look for the line that starts the mutator and comment it out. Starting a mutator is done in various ways. Try looking for the mutator name somewhere else in the file, and comment it out.

Alright ran a quick test this morning over LAN, everything seemed to go smooth after third attempt downloading some of those additional packages, will test more this evening but overall not too hard to get the hang of, alot simpler than my mind had made it out to be @ any rate. So thx guys appreciate the help so far !
