Dodging Question
Oct 3rd, 2011 at 2:32am
Print Post
Several times on another server I have watched a player named Titan win match after match without dodging.  He appears to be slow but players have a hard time killing him.  I had the chance to talk with him and he said he uses a gamepad in one hand and a mouse in the other.  Most of the good players I play dodge like they are on crack.

Question -  Is aim and map knowledge more important than dodging or speed?

What do you mean gamepad oh and Congrats on Your first post here lol.  I find it hard to believe he is hard to hit without dodging which means he is really good at aiming plus I think Titan used to be a Pro UT player,  he knows the maps I am sure and goes for the shield(knows the shield belt and udamage times) and probably has other tweaks) or could be cheating

Hey Keller,
Thanks for the quick reply.  By gamepad I mean he uses a Logitech game controller.  Yes, he could be cheating, that's always possible on the FMJ server.  But he seemed decent when we talked and yes he had 10 plus years experience. If you get the chance, watch him.  He also plays under Hitgirl, Spidey and Batman.

Yes congrats on the post Smiley

I would like to take 'map knowledge' out of the equation, and make the question what is more important, aim or dodging/speed.

Depends depends depends. Depends on the map, depends on the weapons available in the map.

In a bigger map, or a more open map, aim plays a bigger factor in winning than movement IMO. Being able to hit someone from a distance is tops.

In a smaller map or close quarter map, movement is more important. When you run into someone is a hallway or small room, you need to be able to dance out of the way of rockets at the feet, or flak in the face.

UT is so beautiful at balancing things. Now map knowledge, that is something you can use all the time, with either your aim or your dodging lol.

I guess I gravitated to movement because that is what I enjoy. I love the close quarter stuff, dancing around all the ammo in the air, going head to head. I don't play sniper servers, zzzzzzz.

If you want to win Deck, I'd say aim more important. But who wants to win that hunk of junk?  Wink

Map knowledge important all the time. As I mentioned today, I do well on maps on my server that I have retooled, because I learned how things connect, etc.

I'm blabbing on, curtailing.

Some real stuff in there, plus some trigger bots. And Deck16 of course.

I liked the intro. Good talent in putting that sort of thing together.

There's dodging and then there's dodging. I for example largely only play with the keyboard, using the mouse sparingly just to snipe. Usually I'm pretty hard to hit...

...except against some exceptionally good players.

Let me be clear:

Deck maps RULE!

Other than that, welcome here 21! I too am glad you finally broke your silence. great question too BTW. The safest answer is to say they are equally important. It begs the question about what is better to have: The worlds best offense or the worlds best defense? I can say for sure that aim is better in sniper type games! LOL.

Ray, what do you mean you don't use the mouse?  How do you hit anything? Are you waiting until someone hits your cross-hair before you shoot?  Not being an a-hole just seeking knowledge.   Thanks.

Yes he means he uses the keyboard to aim, it is quite difficult and not as good as using a mouse/keyboard combo.

Always, but both are ideal.

I don't wait so much as I strive to get people into my crosshairs. I move around, I jump, I attack; I play like everyone else does...

...I just only use the mouse to aim if I'm sniping over a great distance and am in a fairly secure location.

I prefer fighting in close quarters. In deathmatch I'm a rocket launcher junkie.

I am like a sponge with this stuff.  I play like a stiff, but I want to learn everything I can.
