Title: Dodge Hack ?
Post by: StivBators on Oct 19, 2012, 10:29 AM
Dodging 101: How to forward dodge while moving. step 1: Press foward key. the following needs to be done quickly and smoothly. step 2: press right or left strafe key then step 3: double tap forward key. I have been doing this for at least ten years. No HACKS no MACROS no PROGRAMMING.
When done correctly you look like you are always moving forward. Pretty basic stuff.   ::)

 Thanks for the description.  Should help clear up some confusion.  Good stuff!

A variation of that (this is sort of what I do):

That's the neat clean example that keeps you going in one direction. But I don't do this exactly when approaching someone. I try to approach them at 45° angle. So the key presses and timing are the same, it's just the direction I point the mouse varies so that I can vary my approach angle.

If your forward double tap is not natural, just practice  :)
Before I knew how forward tap, I could side tap pretty good, but I would more often than not lose a hammer battle to someone who could forward dodge. They would be able to point the hammer directly at me and dodge forward, whereas I had to dodge sideways into them and turn my mouse hopefully in the right direction to be forward on to them.

So, I practiced. Made myself just dodge forward for awhile. Now I'm a more natural forward tapper  :)

Well good tips.  I'm still trying to figure out if dodging even makes a difference with lots of players. I get 1v1, but on any servers I have played, aim and connection were the most important.

I have an old Logitech Wingman gaming 3-button mouse that I use and have mapped the middle mouse to forward. Not sure if its easier or not, but I don't think I could switch to a wheelmouse.  Its old school but it works for me :)

Mouse 1 = Fire
Mouse 2 = Forward
Mouse 3 = Alt fire

I had to look it up.  Makes more sense to me now.  So all other movements and weapons come from the keyboard?

Yep...i use the arrow keys for movement (up for jump) and then weapons around the arrow keys. ie, here's my weapons and movement from my User.ini file:

LeftMouse=Fire
RightMouse=AltFire
MiddleMouse=MoveForward
Enter=SwitchWeapon 1
Shift=Walking
Ctrl=Duck
Space=Talk
PageDown=getweapon ripper
End=getweapon UT_FlakCannon
Left=StrafeLeft
Up=DoubleJump|Jump
Right=StrafeRight
Down=MoveBackward
Insert=getweapon minigun2
Delete=getweapon ShockRifle | mutate getweapon zp_sh
Slash=ThrowWeapon
Backslash=getweapon ut_biorifle
Backspace=getweapon PulseGun
PageUp=getweapon UT_Eightball
home=SwitchWeapon 10

Just kidding :( I haven't been able to find any at all...its a dying breed (much like myself) I suppose. When this mouse finally dies, I'll probably give up UT as I don't think I can learn on a wheel mouse.  :P

You would have the joy of being a newb again.

Pretty crazy movement combinations you got. I'll have to take advantage of that somehow...

Thanks. It's amazing how many different keyboard configs there are.

How's are the retirement plans going?  Lol.  I think you're better with a new mouse.

I personally don't dodge, never have. I'm more of a straight ahead and fire guy. I like to see who is better at weapon selection and aim than one who dodges. Just like the teleporter thing, it reminds me of a fall back because one can't stand and fight, so they flee flipping away. For me dodging is like the guy in Raiders of the Lost Ark scene. The big Muslim swinging his sword and I'm Harrison Ford who pulls out his pistol and shoots him. All flash but with little results. Depending on which weapon you have in hand, it can easily be a disadvantage to dodge. My two cents.

Oh, actually Stiv sent me a link to a 3button mouse a while ago on ebay that I bought...been using it but its weird. It doesn't seem as responsive for some reason. Like, it accelerates at unexpected times, or its unresponsive when doing some things like looking up , or I'm getting mouse lag :(  (I'm using direct input now so...acceleration shouldn't be an issue)

hmm...

I see your point but that's taking into account that you can get them before they can get you. I tend to play more "sneaky" and fight when I'm strong...run when I'm weak. Dodging helps me move and setup the fight so that I have the advantage given the weapon I'm using (when I'm not accidentally dodging into lava that is)  ;D

So for the last couple of weeks I have been playing without much or any dodging.  While my movement is slower, my death(s) column is the same as when I dodge. I have won many times here and even laggy old FMJ without dodging.
I will say dodging looks cool, but once you get the timing down, you can kill a dodger when they land. Generally I do my best when my connection is quick, regardless if I double tap or not.  (One shot kills vs running out ammo).
My ultimate goal/test would be to see if I  can dominate 1v1 without dodging...if it's possible.

Yeah, then Stiv can make a movie. And he can make an alternate ending lol.

Well I played a couple of games against someone called TimTim. The non-dodging thing wasn't a success. But I couldn't have beaten him dodging either, lol. I later found out he competes as a pro gamer on MLUT.  I need players at my level first.

On a side note I have been doing great in public servers.  I beat Drew Tang,Acid Reign and 7 others in Viridian Dreams. I was called a cheater by them but that's cool. I take it as a compliment.  Then came second twice to Dasnaskta (another progamer) in Liandri and Deck 16. Who says killing average bots doesn't help!  Keep u posted.

I think trying to go 30 - 0 against my bots is a very good warmup for real play. Congrats on doing well. I think your dodging lately has been awesome.

Thanks H.
I guess it depends on how I feel. Sometimes the fingers are really quick and sometimes I can barely do a side dodge..lol. I think playing on your server where I have little lag and against players like you, Stiv, Temp, Tgun, Hank,Cyborg, and lately Blokka has really helped me.  If I can dodge against yours/their shots and/or hopefully kill you/them it can't help but make me better.  I wish I could move/shoot on all servers like I do on yours. Ace protection really bogs me down, even when my ping doesn't reflect it.

Ya, I Hate ACE - Too many problems!
I prefer to just ignore cheaters, and or ban them when I know they are cheating or get a lot of complaints about a player.

With the Deemer Server I run, it is very difficult for a cheat to work or even for the cheater to win with it. LOL ::)

I use to think the same way until I removed ACE from my server. (removed so two players using MAC could play)
For two months I thought everything/everyone was happy until someone mentioned that player XXXX might be cheating.
I disagreed with the guy and told him "no one cheats at Redeemer and if they did I would definitely see it".
So this guy showed me how easy it was.  We both went in game and he used a cheat.
He tore my azz a new one.  He knew where I was every sec.  I would spawn and within two sec a missile was headed my way.
And I tried but I couldn't beat this guy who was using this cheat!!
Five min later I had ACE back up and running.
And since then I've caught/booted three players (regulars on both redeemer servers) using a cheat.
Two of which that said they only use the cheat on "other" servers...lol
And yes there might be minimal lag but I'm not one of those "other" servers that allow cheats.

Well, good thing CMM is not one of those "other" servers that "allow" cheats either.
We would promptly get rid of anyone noticeably cheating, or anyone complained about by others.
We have had no problems or complaints in the cheating category. (a few foul mouths is all)
IF anyone has tried to use a cheat on CMM, he was most assuredly beat soundly I would suspect. ;D :o
Our group is very vigilant about such things. ;)

Oh, I take that back, I think it was Jimm400 and/or Averagej0e that had an obvious cheater come in one time, they beat him badly and he left and never used it again. LOL :)
It was some sort of aim bot.
As for Radar cheats, they simply do not work on CMM, or at least they don't work very well at all with our mods. - FYI
Title: Re: Dodge Hack ?
Post by: MEAT on May 01, 2013, 05:49 PM
Currently you have three known cheaters on your server.  Two of which have admitted to me that they have cheated on your server.
And I think it was last year I told of you of two others...but I only see one still active.
Anyway, the thing I noticed with cheaters (those that use radar) is that that don't always win or should I say "they chose not to win sometimes".
Obviously that's is how they stay unnoticed.  They pick their wins.
And I to thought I had a "clean" group of players...most of which I keep in contact via email...but two were caught while ACE was down.
So believe what you want and do what you want. I'm just trying to help you out...again.

Help "again"? *GULP* :o Oh nooo :P
Hmm, well Cheating didn't get them very far LOL
Anyway, yes, your point is well taken, and if anyone ever "sticks out" as a cheater, we will deal with it for sure.
Also, a "win" on CMM doesn't mean much historically anyway, as we do not keep Stats - at least yet.
Most of us just like to play, and win when we can. ;)
Seriously though, I am not real sure I could even run ACE on CMM with our mods.
The PirateDeemerCMM mod, even though it is very trim in file size and works very well, it is somewhat of a resource hog.
Not too bad, but I am afraid adding an even bigger resource hog like ACE into the mix would create problems - maybe we will see sometime.
OK MEAT, you posted some good advice.
There MAY be hope for you yet :P
