My New Desktop PC Build

Lemme start off by saying....This was a once in a lifetime find. I happened to be doing gardening/landscaping for a guy in San Francisco and just happened to see an open PC case on the sidewalk in front of his house. So I asked him about it and he told me yes I could take it but I probably wouldn't want it because it was old and it had an old GPU (Video Card). I said i'd use it even for extra screws! They always come in handy! Turns out it was only missing a hard drive so was kinda worth it to lug it back home by hand after work 2.5 miles. So far I've changed the case (was missing case side!) , the heatsink/fan's and completely 100% redone thermal paste & heat stickers on the GTX 580! and I'm proud to say the CPU is overclocked from 2.8GHz to 3.3GHz and is running at a lovely 98.6F, good enough for my body is good enough for the processor!  Grin Also I'm calling the machine "Blackout" Like the Scorpion's album. The GTX 580 is also running at 40C  Tongue about a 100F or so. Came with 2x 2GB DDR3 Corsair chips, but found 2x 8GB's @ 1333MHz on Letgo (trading/selling app) and picked those up for 60$  Cheesy So it's got an i7 quad core, 20GB's of DDR3 and room for another video card. Overall not bad for 60$ spent total!

Yeah turned out that the guy had this as his personal machine when he worked for PC World Magazine! Which I used to actually used to have a subscription to, I'm excited about the GTX580 because I wanted to buy that card years ago and finally get to play around with Tessellation among some other technologies. So I ended up with a system build that was actually featured in one of my favorite magazines. Definitely a treasure find in my book too!  Smiley And Yeah I tested it with a modern FPS called Xonotic which is cross platform and designed to be similar to UT99. So the machine is running Debian 9 but am going to dual boot it with Windows 10 today.

I'm glad that the PC found a loving home!  I can hear Sarah McLachlin singing in the background. The narrator saying "For just pennies a day you can brighten the life of a PC"  Lol.  Still, pretty cool. Good stuff!!
